Today marks five weeks since my injury. I've been wearing the same splint for four weeks, though I'm only wearing it about half the day now. As long as I have the splint off, I can write, eat, and prepare food much more easily. I have still not attempted to play an acoustic piano without the splint - I played the big band gig wearing it for protection. My range of motion is getting better, but has stalled a bit. Some stretches are a little painful, and I have very little strength in my thumb. I'm still waiting to get an appointment with an Occupational Hand Therapist.
I saw yet another doctor through the Tillamook County Department of Health. The doctor will be my primary care physician, and in explaining my frustration with my medical care, he agreed that an occupational hand therapist was the next logical step. I do have an appointment with an orthopedist on September 10, and will get x-rays to assure that it is healing properly. I can't really make much money playing piano down here, so it's not like it's impeding my career to any great extent.
I have a phone interview for a teaching job this evening. Not sure if it will be the right fit, but that's part of the reason I'm doing the interview. I'm interviewing them as much as they are interviewing me.
